A working cat is a healthy, sterilized, and vaccinated feline hired for one very important job — natural pest control. The working cats™ program is a green program that relocates sterilized and vaccinated unsocialized cats who would otherwise have been euthanized at the shelter to places that have problems with rats. Our working cat program covers cats that come into rescue but are not suited for an in-home environment due to under-socialization and/or an increased need to be outdoors with limited human interaction. Working cats are seeking adoptive homes outside of city-limits where leash laws do not apply, and can help keep rodent and pest populations at bay. In exchange for shelter, medical care, and food, working cats can benefit their people by keeping rodents and other pests away. We will walk you through the process of introducing your working cat to their new home. We make sure that our working cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, dewormed, and given flea/tick prevention before they leave! The program was founded by melya kaplan, executive director of voice for the animals foundation. They give so-called “unadoptable” cats a second (or perhaps third and fourth chance) at a healthy, stable life by placing them in homes with plenty of room and a purpose. · and for too many “unadoptable” cats , entering a shelter can lead to euthanasia. · cats like this who have a successful outdoor history are great candidates for our working cat program. These independent, instinct-driven cats thrive in environments where they can patrol for rodents and other pests, providing an eco-friendly, chemical-free solution. That’s where working cats programs come in. Cats available for adoption through cat depot’s working cat program are looking for a “home” in outdoor settings such as a barn, farm, warehouse, stable, etc. However, we don’t live in a perfect world, and we all know cats make the rules here!
