We had a total of 40 adoptions last year and 463 dogs that went to various rescues. A dog or cat leaves behind a life of uncertainty, sometimes even the threat of euthanasia, and begins again in a home of their own. But a video now circulating online turns that familiar script upside down. From county-run humane societies to non-profit rescues, everyone is being hit hard. · the number of dogs euthanized in shelters is rising, despite more adoptions, because of a nearly 6% increase in dogs taken in, transferred, or returned to shelters. · these pups are ready to find homes ! This overcapacity also has a direct impact on animals that must be put down. A dog owner has gone viral after sharing the exact moment she met her soulmate pup in shelter—and internet users can’t cope with the heartwarming footage. · there are so many pups out there waiting for their forever homes , and every single one deserves a chance. It’s no secret by now that animal shelters across the country (and around the world) are facing unprecedented overcrowding and underfunding. · that means dogs still waiting for new homes of all sizes are staying longer on average in shelters , limiting shelter capacity. We have a building we completed in 2020 that houses about 40 dogs on any given day and we intake between 500 and 600 dogs a year. · when it happens, the moment is unforgettable. But something most people don’t realize is that every dog in a shelter has a story, and most of the time those stories are really heartbreaking.
